Bayanzag (Rich in Saxual) is one of the most beautiful places among the 33 Gobis of Mongolia where travelers can walk through the red canyons which believed to have been ocean floor millions of years ago. The area is well known for its paleontological findings of dinosaur fossils and the most remarkable one is the yielding of the first ever discovery of dinosaur eggs.
The clay canyons and cliffs take on a bright red and orange hues during sunset, appearing as if they’re on flame, thus American paleontologist Roy Andrew Chapman gave the name 'Flaming Cliffs" when he visited the area in 1920s. Fruits of his 2 years research through Gobi desert include 10 kinds of dinosaurs of which 8 were only found from Mongolia. Asian wild ass, black tailed gazelle, and steppe wolf inhabit the area Also extremely rare Gobi bear "Mazaalai” lives in this area.
