The main border passage point to China for passengers traveling by ground, Zamiin-Uud (Road’s Gate) is a flourishingsoum of Dornogobi Province. On the Chinese side of the border Erlian city is located providing convenient air and ground connections to other cities in China.
Zamiin-Uud is located on the trade route that had been used between Beijing and Urgoo (Urga) since ancient times. The railway station and administration buildings, as well as few apartments are built in a Soviet style, and other modern buildings are mostly hotels and restaurants.
On the road to/from Ulaanbaatar one can see the vast Gobi desert, an area that is most densely populated in the country.
