Uran Togoo is named according its uniquely beautiful dome like shape shape resembling a round pot, name roughly meaning “Crafty crater”. Together with Tulga Uul (traditional tripod pot support mountain) and Jalavch Uul (small pot mountain), these extinct volcanoes form “Tulga Uul Natural Monument" special protected area covering 5800 hectares of Khutag-Ondor soum of Bulgan province.
The Uran Togoo features an extinct volcano crate that is perfectly round in shape, with 20m diameter round lake in the middle of it. The mountain sides are full of volcanic rocks of various shapes and sizes, and it takes a healthy climb up to the crate mouth from the parking spot.
