Formed as result of continuous volcanic eruptions and earthquakes centuries ago, Khuisiin Naiman Nuur is a chain of 8 small lakes nestled within Khangai Mountain range, elevated 2400m above the sea level.
Khuisiin Naiman Nuur literally translates to 'Navel eight lakes’ because the lakes Shireet, Khaliut, Bugat, Khaya, Khuis, Onon, Doroo and Bayan-Uul (8) are interconnected by underground water channels. Due to being nestled within foresty mountains it is very challenging to travel with a vehicle thus one can travel only by horse or hiking. The untouched landscape is stunningly beautiful, the surrounding area is rich in flora and fauna, and also proves valuable for geological and water studies.
